Round Two

Tomorrow is going to be the first day of the second semester of the year that is YL6 - its round two of one of the most interesting years I've had so far. I can't help but post an entry to mark the supposed importance of this occasion. The sem that ended had been my understanding of a roller coaster ride (I don't ride roller coasters, so I hope you understand the gravity of that statement) literally from the first day to the very last day.

I had started the sembreak hoping for a revelation of sorts before the next sem started all over again, a sort of reflection/recollection/self-discovery that would make sense of the whirlwind semester and help me become better prepared for the coming semester. I've nitpicked almost every decision, every reaction, every mistake and any little thing I thought was significant -- even analyzed my friends' lives hoping to get insight on my own.

The day to have found the answer to a better semester is today, as the cycle of weekly dosing of exams, drama, sleeples nights and caffeine starts again tomorrow. And to tell you honestly, I don't have any instant answers or sudden formulas for the sem-to-come. Instead, what the sem-that-was has taught me is that things (both bad and good) will happen, whether we are ready for them/not, whether we make a decision/not, whether we want them to/not, whether we deserve them/not; but what we can control is ourselves -- how we react, how we think, how we deal. That little hint of control, of myself, reminds me that life will never be too bad (or good) if I don't let it.

So here's to the sem that was! Everything that happened in the past, is always a blessing -- the good for the obvious reasons that they were good and the bad for giving us the opportunity to change for the better, and lets not forget the insignificant (you know the memories we thought that didn't matter or has no bearing, like when we wait in line, or when we use the restroom, or even when we sleep in class.. tihihihi), for those are the rare times that we reveal our real selves because we think we have no audience. Looking forward to the coming sem!

XOXO,
Joanie

"Medical School provides the best substantiation for Charles Darwin's theory of natural selection.
For here, we see in its cruelest form, the survival of the fittest.
Not the smartest, as one should expect.
But the fittest to cope with the inhuman pressures,
the demands made not only on the brain but on the psyche..."
